Bare Patches on my Lawn

From having a lawn that I was quietly proud of, over the last 2 years or so, starting with quite tiny patches that I thought would grow over in time but haven't, it's got steadily worse.
I've looked up remedies in books but no one seems to sell any of the compounds they recommend saying they've all been banned.
One that crops up over an over again is TOP LAWN but again, no one seems to sell it anymore.
Any ideas or where I might be able to buy this, or a similar, product?
Thanks for any help

Could be due to grubs in the lawn. I know blood meal works for some things I don't know if it will control the grubs. You could try it. Other than that a lawn care firm will be your answer.
Bare patches can be caused by many things, a common one is grass grub.

Sounds as though you have a lot of Daddy long legs that have hatched just beneath the grass surface . They feed on the grass roots totally destroying a once immaculate lawn.

Could be leatherjackets.

For treatment try this link: http://www.turfshop.co.uk/index.php?page=13

Hope it helps.
