I want to appear offline every time I sign into my hotmail account (it used to be set up that way) now the default shows me online and I have to manually change it every day!  Any ideas please?  Many thanks!

Not sure, maybe that's Microsoft and its updates? Don't use MSN (the wife does!) - looked at options/preferences, no luck. You might want to try MSN Plus! (watch for ads?). Here:-

Start MSN Messenger.
In the MSN Messenger sign-in window, next to Status, click your status, and then click the option that best describes the status that you want others to see when you sign in.
Open the MSN Messenger program by double-clicking the icon in the system tray. Click File... Sign Out. When you're signed out, there's a thing at the top that says "Always sign in as" with a drop-down box where you can change Online to Out to Lunch or whatever you fancy.

That's it Ralph!  Many thanks!!

Ralph, oceanauk, am I missing something? I can't find that option but I have recently updated my wife's MSN to 7.5.
..In Version 7.5 the "Status" changer thingy is just under the Password box......click the tiny arrow and choose from the list......You MUST be signed out to do this.
Thanks commoner (need to open my eyes!). Can now tell my wife.
..lol..Yeah..get Brownie points, tell her you figured it out all by your li'l old self...commoner...<G>
