Families...who would have them hey?

My brother told me this morning that he split with his girlfriend and she kicked him out, he says he has nowhere else to go and no money so spent last night outside homeless. He says he has applied for a crisis loan but won't get it for the next 7 days so asked me for £300 to pay for accommodation and food. I told him I couldn't help him out (I lent him £250 last year and never got it back). He says the last few days of his life have been the worst.

I told him to go to Citizens Advice or to the council and tell them he is homeless. I feel really terrible though, I don't want him sleeping rough but he has to be responsible for his own actions and not expect me to bail him out all the time.

Did I do the right thing? I really do feel bad :(

Salvation Army hostels. There should be one about somewhere, especially if he lives in a large city or town.

Thanks Starbuckone, will see if I can find one of them near him and send him that way. Apparantly his job is only as and when they call him which explains the lack of money. He says he's sent his CV off to a lot of people today so at least he's making an effort. He told me not to worry and something would come up. He doesn't seem overly concerned about being homeless, he seems more upset at losing his girlfriend.

Forgot to say the tenancy agreement is in her name not his.

I hope so zzxxee. I'm not going to give him any money, I'm hoping he'll sort out something and will feel better afterwards for doing it himself. Plus, he'll just keep coming back for money and expect me to bail him out everytime. I truly do feel terrible though, guess this is what they call tough love!
keep us posted about how hes doing, and dont feel guilty i for one think you have done the right thing !
you only have his say so that this is the situation, he hasalready got away with £250...maybe chancing his luck ???
