USB Ports disappeared

 A while ago I lost use of my USB Ports and as a consequence Net Conection was lost ( broadband.) After some advice I remedied this by installing an Ethernet card, but my USB Ports are still not working. I don't know what caused it, if I did it may help me to fix it but they are not listed in My Computer Properties either.  Any sugestions ?

I found this after installing Service Pack 2. I remedied by removing all USB devices under Device Manager and then let Windows find them again on start up. Can you not see any USB devices in Device Manager?
