Apart from what the law says, are seatbelts really necessary if you have airbags ?

Air bags sometimes don't go off !

SRS actually stands for Supplementary Restraint System and often include airbags and seat belt retraction stalks to take up the slack of the seat belt during an accident.

Airbags can actually be rather dangerous on their own and are only designed for use in conjunction with the seat belts.

click on link and then download. Tell me an airbag would save this poor chappie

Bit of a stupid question. You obviously dont value your own safety.

Thank you all, except BigB , for your constructive answers. As for you, BigB, the question was put to create intelligent discussion and receive technical information not snide comments. Where do I say that I was considering not wearing seatbelts ? In fact I have been wearing them diligently since January 1966. Grow up and use the forum properly.

Having worked in A&E for 7 years i regularly see what damage can be done by people not wearing seatbelts!!!!!

I am strongly opposed to any suggestion of not wearing a seatbelt for any reason whatsoever.

Perhaps a trip to your local A&E department will help you decide if your original question was responsible and "grown up"!!!

The original CONCEPT of air bags was in place of seat belts, however on testing and research it was quickly found that they would be better served as an additional safety feature.
