I (HE!) lost my car keys at the weekend. Just phoned the hotel we stayed at and they've been handed in. She said to email my name, address, room number and card details so they can post them to me.

Just about to send the email when I realised I'm just about to send my card details by email to a complete stranger.

Then it got me thinking....I've paid for things over the phone before. What's stopping the person taking the details and using them....besides the honesty aspect.

McFluff - fancy going to pick up my car keys?????

But they are sending them to me without proof. I just gave her my room number and described the keys (keyrings)
moot point anyway, got no-one going that way

but i would of got ummm to email the hotel with thepersons name, confirm its ok to give the keys to them and then that person show id when they picked them up
I would never give my card details out over the phone regardless what amount was in my account, to much identity fraud going on nowa days
They could copy your keys, track down your home address, break in & kidnap Ginge in his sleep.

Stop the paranoia, give over the details & get your stuff d.q. Argue with CC company if any fault.

Well if there is nothing in the account then they have nothing to steal. Then I change my card...

Tambo - if they seen him asleep they would soon change their minds...
how did you pay for the room? cash?

dont most hotels take card details these days anyway?
Question Author
My bf paid on his card. I think....
so they already have card details...

His mate booked it on her card. He paid for the room at check out using chip and pin machine...so they won't have his card details stored.
they print out receipts though...give you one and keep one themselves..

i wouldnt worry too much thought its a hotel they take card numers all day long so could copy if they wanted...not worth the risk to them though really
