The only reference I can find to "turning bone" is working it on a lathe, e.g. the verb of turning it, not a bone called a "turning bone".

A 'turning bone' is something else isn't it?
How has the question arisen? Knowing that may help us answer it.
It's your left or right Arm. When riding a bike you indicate which way you are turning so that other road users know which way you are going. Left Turning Bone and Right turning Bone !
