Have they been dug up by an animal or just disappeared? Daffodil bulbs are toxic to animals so that would be strange but animals do dig them up and discard them elsewhere.
Snails?
Rabbits eating the tops?
Very likely to be the squirrels I'm afraid.
Have a look fro the ends of the leaves at ground level, sounds like they have been eaten by something, they'll be up again soon
My vote is for Pigeons.
Rabbits don't like daffs. They leave all mine and eat crocus and tulips!! I would think they have been disturbed underground by rodents.
Dig them in deeper next time .. 5-6" if you can. They are being dug up and eaten.
