Is it possible to find out what sentence was given to someone who has been to court?
A man attempted to steal my car a while back and I know that he subsequently appeared in court charged with a number of offences. I am curious to know what sentence (if any) he received.

No permission is required of the Magistrates, doc. They have no say in the matter.

Court proceedings in the adult courts in England and Wales (and I believe in Scotland too) are public, as are the results. The court record is available for public inspection. One needs to know where the defendant appeared and on what date.

Must have changed since then I suppose, doc.

Certainly Magistrates have no part in the process now and the court records are available for all to see.

Many thanks to both of you. I will contact the court and find out what I need to do.
Are court records available on line, do you know, or would I have to go to the court concerned?
No, they are not available on line Polly.
