In Haiti the relief agencies say they have the materials to build several thousand homes but the land is covered with loose rubble . A few people have manually removed enough rubble to build themselves a home but 18 thousand people are sitting on their backsides in a tented camp waiting for someone else to do it. Good grief if only a quarter of them removed a few bricks each day they could make big inroads into that rubble. Manpower alone can work wonders. We don't require bulldozers to remove loose rubble just muscle and the will.
Haiti is not alone in this Backside Syndrome, I remember driving through New York and saw the difference between the different ethnic areas . Same street , same type of houses but a vast difference in the amount of rubbish left lying around.
Of course it's not PC to say so but you can see it in our own country Just go to some of our sink estates , people complain but do nothing about the situation.

I think that this could have developed into an interesting debate about the inability or unwillingness of various Governments to deliver on their aid promises and the logistics of the massive rebuilding operations; including the willingness (or otherwise) of the indigenous population to participate in their own recovery. Instead, you have deliberately attempted to derail a valid question by suggesting that the question poser is motivated by a racist agenda, thereby effectively invalidating the question.

Note to self: Must remember never to criticise a person or group of people who are not 'white' lest I be called a racist.

doesn't look like anyone's going to answer your question, sp1814 - bad luck. I too was wondering what "the different ethnic areas" meant, and how that tallied with the the later claim from the OP that he hadn't mentioned ethnicity. Guess we'll never know.

Someone commented to say alot of the building aid actually hasn't been delivered and therefore can't be used anyway, but what's the chance this is because the aid cannot get through the rubble that no one's shifting, and if know one moves rubble to then use the building aid it is only going to gather up and cause even more of an obstruction, therefore it'shaving to be held back and sent out in stages.

I don't know how they must feel, but if I had no food and no family left alive I would still be doing everything I could, working towards a goal, but that's just me....I not one for sitting around I get restless.
