how deep is the suez canal at its shallowest

also i believe aircraft carriers can travel down it

but they cant get into portsmouth harbour

( i was told because its not deep enough) dont know if thats true or not???

and i suppose canals (if they dont have locks) stay the same depth the whole way along

p.s defiantley 24 mtrs not 24 feet??
Aircraft carriers can or at least they used to be able to get into Portsmouth. Many years ago in the 1970s I was on the old Ark Royal which was a Aircraft Carrier and we got into Portsmouth. But some of the big American carriers could not get in and used to anchor outside the harbour.
