In my course material it states that I can bring an annotated text into the exam with me and on the AQA website it states that I cannot annotate. I have annotated many of the poems in my core text and am worried that they wont let me take it in the exam now. I have made sure that I have mostly written single words ie: alliteration or masculine against the highlighted areas. Has anyone done A-Level English and encountered this?

I don't know the answer for certain but if you are doing the AQA exam I would expect that the AQA's statement is what matters. But surely your English teacher will know- or are you studying at home?

Studying at home. Unfortunately I annotated my copy months before seeing it on the aqa website. Let's hope that it goes undetected on the teacher's radar!
It's a bit risky though- it would be a shame if you were disqualified for cheating. If they want to enforce the rule they will have to check some books in the room.
When I was doing exams this wasn't an issue- we were never allowed to take books in.

I may purchase another copy and just highlight certain areas. It'd be just my luck that the teacher doesn't even look.
Some exam centre actually issue new texts as you sit down, and insist all persoanl copies are removed from candidates. It's really not worth being disqualified for cheating - try your best and if necessary go for a resit but that 'cheat' moniker is well worth avoiding.
