We are driving a van from UK to Italy at the end of January. Does anyone know if there are any mountain passes between France and Italy that usually stay open? Plus any B&Bs in the Gap or Digne area?

Not advisable to attempt ANY alpine passes at this time of year, as a Commercial Truck driver, I'd not even think about it!

Thanks for the useful websites @Count-A-Strong @Nibble. If mountain passes are out, what would be a)the cheapest b)the most scenic route from France into Italy?
If you intend to stop around the Gap/Digne area, suggest you carry on the N85 (route du Napoleon) through to Grasse, then by the Autoroute A8 to Ventimiglia. Going down to Gap, transit through Luxembourg, to Nancy to Besancon. Then use the following to plan from there..
