What and how is the best way to secure a USB memory stick to ensure the contents are safe if the stick is lost or stolen?
I know you can lock your phone with a 4 digit number, etc. so nobody can use it,but I see 'shops' advertising 'unlock your phone' services and I wonder if the same thing is true of memory sticks?
Any advice or help on this issue please!
Cheers

Locking phones and securing memory sticks are in no way comparable.

truecrypt is probably one of the best known and widely used way to password protect a memory stick and as long as you use a decent password it's going to be pretty much impossible for anyone to gain access to the files on the stick (this includes you if you forget the password)

TBH the best way is to buy and use a U3 drive (although this system is being run down now for some strange reason) A tiny part of the drive (about 7Mb) is partitioned off and Windows treats it as a Disc drive. It can autorun .. and be protected by a password (which protects all contents) Programmes (like Browser/Email clients) can be installed to the larger partition.
I have used several for a few years. Nicest ones are Sandisk.

if you have windows 7 google bitlocker to go is good
