Have been reading great things about Microsoft Security Essentials AV program on other discussion sites but I know the people here are honest and un-biased and will offer great advice. So can someone tell me if it holds up well against AVG and others, thanks

it holds up well against all the other AV programs.

Though the best AV in the world is only as good as it's weak point, and the weak point is always the human using it. if a warning pops up and people see it as a annoyance and just click on OK or unblock or similar to get rid of it then it's not worth having any AV installed.

Thanks Chuck I knew you'd have some info. I've read it doesn't slow the system down like AVG
I switched the PC and laptop in my home over from AVG to Microsoft Security Essentials early last year. I've had no problems with either. It's got a very clean and simple interface and as you say, it takes up very few system resources.

It's a very simplistic program offering little in the way of customisation and has no powerful advanced features. Thing is, it doesn't claim to, and it's completely free. So if nothing else it's honest and does what it says it does, and I like that. So I definitely recommend it if that's what you're looking for.

Thanks all. I have downloaded and pc runs smoother/quicker. I agree AVG seem to be losing the plot a little, shame as they were so good
