Huge bike tyre problem !

I made a stupid mistake recently.
I bought the biggest thickest off road tyres I could get for my prized titanium xc mountainbike. They're Specialised "clutch" folding tyres and were fairly expensive.

Here's the mistake: the back one *only just* fits inside the chain stays and rather than returning them, I decided to give it a bit of a 'haircut' - just a little skim off the knobbles at the edges. There is now about 2 mm clearence on each side and it's still not enough (it rubs when I'm pedalling hard or cornering).

Now here's the question - can anyone think of a better way of taking off more other than continuing with my heavy duty scissors ?

I would use a bike frame as a lathe.

Set up a very sharp knife edge somewhere where it can be held steady and moved. Turn the wheel at speed and introduce the blade radially so it cuts into the knobbles until it ultimately cuts a lump of material off each knob.

Don't try to eat away at the width of the tyre from the sides because the rubber gives way too much.
