All electric showers including the Triton work the same way. Water passes over a heating element a bit like a more powerful version of that in a kettle. The temp control is actually a valve like a tap that controls the flow of water over the heating element, turn it to minimum the water flows quickly over the element and is only luke warm or cold, turn it to max and the water passes over the element slowly making it hot.
