Help, please. I'm torn between dunnocks and pinnocks as the answer for 23across as they both seem to fit the bill (pardon the pun).
Another name for hedge sparrows (8) ??N?O?K?

dunnocks
I'd be interested to know where the word "pinnock" came from, and its meaning, as it is not in any of my dictionaries.

Many thanks. JandyAF, I found pinnock in a list of birds in Bradford's Crossword Solver's Dictionary. I couldn't find the word in my dictionaries either so I googled "pinnock hedge sparrow" and it came up with it as a bird in dictionary.net.
I googled pinnock and came up with nothing but people's names and the odd placename, but tried "bird called pinnock", and found that its real name is Bearded Reedling (Panurus biarmicus) which used to be called the Bearded Tit. It is not a tit, nor a hedge sparrow.

Thanks, JandyAF, that's obviously cleared that up then.
