I would like to know if my local council can be held liable for not gritting the public roadways in my area?

I slipped whilst crossing the road today and fractured my right arm in the mid shaft humeral in 2 places and have just been discharged from A&E. I would like to file for personal injuries claim and get compensation as my local council has not gritted the roads, yet the neighbouring Westminster council have gritted all there roads? My council haven't even bothered sending any road gritters out.

i nearly splipped over today...but not on ice...on split diesel at the petrol station..the geniuses there had chosen to lay a shiny marble like slab around the pump...instead of something with some grip...could also have had some ice on it too i suppose...

accident waiting to happen...mmm maybe i could have had a bit of a windfall for xmas, ...bah!...

Hi everyone, thanks for all our replies. Sorry for my delay in replying but i have been dosed up to the eyeballs with painkillers and morphine tablets (Yes I am in alot of pain as my arm was fractured in two places so everytime I move it clicks and crunches and gives me extreme pain). I was just going to the local shop to get some milk if you were wondering where I was going.I understand now that I can't make a claim against the council which is fair enough I was just generally interested to see if I could. Well I finish this post now as my questions have been answered. Thanks to all those that replied.
