Indoor Plant dying.

This is not strictly speaking a gardening question unless you count pot plants as indoor gardening, but I hope someone can help. My friend gave me two pot plants, I think they are primulas or something like that. I have only had them a few days and the outside leaves are turning yellow. The soil is moist so they do not need water. I keep them in the kitchen which is cooler than the family room. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Does anyone know where u can get amarylis seeds, bulbs or grown plants from?

Try putting them in a bright position facing south .

Thanks carlton, as it happens my kitchen faces north so perhaps they will be happier in the family room. I shall try it. I don't want to lose them as my friend is very kind and I wouldn't want to upset her by killing them. I'm not very good with pot plants.

don't overwater - is there a hole in the flower pot?

I am not an expert gardener, but I have primulas in the garden, and they die right back in winter, they then grow again in spring, so I think that they may well survive, I would just keep them away from frost and water them very little till spring, then water and feed them, should work!...........

Have you looked at the bottom of the pot to see if roots are protruding from the drainage hole? If they are you will have to re-pot it into a slightly larger pot, but no larger than an inch than what it`s in now, or you could give it a liquid feed and put it in the garden in March.

primulas aren't really indoor plants. If you have somewhere bright unheated and frost free, they would do well...yellow leaves also sound like waterlogged compost as has been said.

Thanks everyone, you are very kind. I shall try everything to keep them alive until spring. The waterlogged bit sounds as ifit might be. They are in fancy pots and I haven't looked at the bottom yet to see if there are any holes. Will do it as soon as I get up - still in my dressing gown!!
