If you go to the google homepage and start typing the list underneath automatically gets all the webpages without you having to submit, a sort of predictive search facility, my question is isn't this a little dangerous as you may be typing something and get something inappropriate instead?

I actually just typed in sex and then "sex in the city" came up and nothing else and then typed in "Porn" and nothing came ups so I suspect that the system has been tweaked to avoid exactly what I meant my the original question.
In Google's setting you can turn off 'Google Instant' if you don't want this function.
If you go into Google settings and unclick Google Instant nothing should come up as you type.

inappropriate wording is fairly exclusive, you would have to type a significant amount of the word to pull up iffy content.

plus I believe you can set a parental filter

Funny docspock, took me while to figure out your post, as I said above all of those words must have been tweaked as I don't see superbrands like google making such a rookie mistake that could cost them millions in a courtcase at some point.
I just hate the way Google just add things - That sidebar is annoying as well.

Trouble is there isn't a better search engine than google.
Any luck with your Bush TV cazz ?

Turn 'em off if you don't need them.
no red, they said it was out of warranty, I have to get a quote for repair then 'appeal' to their better nature.

thanks naz, redman, cazzz1975 I think I'll leave it as it does help. Why is a mobile phones predictive text service so rubbish yet googles predictive search seems to be spot on so far?
Yes, by default Google Instant is on a "safe" search.

If you want to learn more about google there is always Bill Slawski: http://www.seobythesea.com

I can't stand this new tweak. I want to see my own previous searches not what others have been looking for. There used to be a facility to turn off "query suggestions" which is no longer available.

I'm currently using...

There's an interesting thread on the subject here...

By default Google filters your search results.

The default setting is "use strict filtering"

But you can change it, using the "Search settings" optioin, to

"Use moderate filtering"

or

"Do not filter my search results"
