22 across. One, one, one. ?E?E?D. I posted this yesterday and received the reply LEGEND. My request for an explanation received no reply. I can't relate this answer to the clue. Has anybody any other ideas?

Hello Soliloquy

I too have LEGEND and found difficulty in resolving the reason, other that a certain person named LEGENDE was involved in mathematical theories et al and I presumed that since ONE ONE ONE is akin to the digits 1 1 1 this may be the answer ???
I haven't seen the puzzle. Are you sure your letters are correct, because 111 in cricket is "NELSON".

Thank you both for your replies I like the NELSON answer but the second E and the D have to be there.
My take on this is :-

One (refers to 1 across - fables), One (only one of them becomes Fable which is a LEGEND), One = one of two leg ends

A bit weak, I know but can't see anything else.
Hello soliloquy I must offer you an apology not getting back to you yesterday. I was called away to the phone, my grandaughter having had an accident .As a result I was unable to get back on my PC to give you an answer. I must admit I wasn't very happy with the actual word and would hesitate to explain it. Maybe the answer you have got now has helped.
Once again my apologies for not replying.
22ac. see one across--fables -legend

Thank you to you all, including Mctavish. I'll go with kaymac's explanation. It looks like LEGEND it is - but it isn't a very good clue.
