When you enter a mobile phone contract say for 18 months at £35 per month plus calls and the phone is free I take it that the monthly charge goes to paying for the phone.
What happens after 18 months If you want to keep the phone and dont want to upgrade, will you still be charged the £35 per month?

yes you will, they word it so the £35 is the monthly fee for the contract and the phone is a free perk (of course we all know that in reality you are paying for the phone)

You can cancel the contract and go over to PAYG after the 18 months and keep the phone or just get the upgrade and sell the old phone to recoup some of the money.
you might be offered a reduced monthly charge if you still want to carry on with the package deal youre on without wanting to upgrade your phone...?
thats what happened with me anyway malagabob.
i was paying £20 each month. didnt want an upgrade but wanted to carry on with the deal i was on, so vodafone reduced my rate to £10 per month.
or keep the older phone if it is working fine and you are happy with it and sell the brand new one for a nice sum ! .. some places are offering good deals up to xmas .. free 32" tv AND a phone in CPW for instance .. obviously u sign another contract but might be worth looking around ..
