why are womens trousers getting longer? I thought normal or regular inside leg measurements were 29" but some shops its 30" or 31" (on the fat face website they even go as far as to say 30" is short) my mum is 5 ' 7" and she is finding that regular length trousers are too long for her (her legs aren't even short) so theres no hope for me with my 27.5" inside legs.....
why are clothing manufacturers doing this? =(

She may need to start getting petite range of trousers.  i think this normally means 5ft 5 and under but this will probably be a 28" inside leg.

i guess its more the fashion cut of trousers nowdays. people wear them very long to wear over heels.

I actually have the opposite problem.  I'm 5'7" which is not excessively tall but I almost always find 'regular' length trousers flap around my ankles.  It's even worse if I'm wearing heels.  But I guess if they're getting longer generally it would be because the hem of your trousers should touch the bottom of your heel.  It drives me crazy when I see women in heels with trousers that don't meet them.
I dont think it is purely the heel thing, i'm 5'8 and i find most trousers are too long and i end up having them taken up. Including combat/cargo pants that no-one would wear with heels!! seems you need to be 6' nowadays!!
I'm with nicola on this one - 5' 7" & trousers often too short. It must depend on where you shop (Next are pretty good though).  Way back in the 70's you could sometimes buy jeans with unfinished hems &  you could sew them yourself to suit.  Don't suppose people would want to be bothered with that nowadays!!

Yeah, I'm 5'9" and aged 58 and at long last I can buy trousers the right length.  I buy Next long length and they are just right!

I was 5'10" but have shrunk with age :o(

30" or 31" are too short for me, I need 32" minimum! And I'm not 6'!

i'm 5'8" and i find that 34" trousers are often too short for me.

where are trousers getting longer? please tell me!  i desperately need some new jeans!

sorry to hijack your question funkychicken, but i would really love to know.

Minimatronic - Dorothy Perkins Tall range is fantastic - inside legs are almost too long for me - and I'm 6 ft tall with an inside leg of 36". Not expensive like Long Tall Sally either.
I have the same problem funkychicken, I'm 5'3" and end up taking up almost every pair of trousers I buy. The only place I've found them to be the right length is Next.

Funkychicken, I completely agree.  My inside leg is something similar.

And I don't mean to offend any of you taller ladies, but shops like Topshop and Miss Selfridge seem to have an escalating scale for trouser length - 30, 32, 34, 36 especially in jeans but with petites, you just have one length.  Most petite ranges are for those 5 ft 3 and below, but they are mainly for those at 5ft 3, and for anyone shorter than that, they're still too long! Having said that, at least we can shorten trousers, you can't add length to them!

Most shops now have Tall and plus size ranges, yet many don't have petite ranges.  New Look did start a petite range but my local branch no longer has it so not sure if that is a general New Look thing.

And the specialist shops (for both Tall and petite clothes) are often more expensive anyway!

Sorry, you've really started something with this one Funkychicken!
