I was always under the impression that a poppy was worn on the left breast fo0r men and on the right for women, however now I see al the femaie presenters on the T.V. wear it on the left too. Is there a reason for this?

This certainly used to be the case Pudcat..........years ago I worked for a tailor and mens' jackets used to have a slit in the left lapel and ladies in the right lapel for button-holes.

I wasn't aware of such etiquette and wouldn't worry about it either.
No idea why this is!..............but I'll wear mine on the4 right side anyway!...........as always!.................

I can't find a way to get one to stay on without using the little pin (a safety pin doesn't work) - I don't really want to stab any of the little ones when I pick them up.
I bought a lovely pinned poppy and wear it on my handbag.
Hi ClaireBare - I'll have to look out for one of those - feel bad not wearing one (especially as we live right next to an army camp).
I hung mine in the zip pull on a pocket of my waterproof jacket today.

Should I hang my head in shame?

I find the best way Sherarddk is to use a safety pin right thro the coat lapel and back again to leave about a half an inch of metal showing then simply push the poppy stem down thro it. and the little nick on it stops it falling out
I bought it from our local charity shop, its sturdier than the paper ones and very pretty.
Hi all - will experiment with different methods although I only wear causal clothing that tends to be quite floppy (fleece jackets and cardigans - I know, I am a slob). Spend all day picking dummies up without picking up a poppy as well (and don't want to stab a little one too).
It should be worn on the left for men, and right for ladies. The leaf should be at the 11 o'clock position. The best way to pin on a poppy using a straight pin, is to pin it diagonally through the green leaf, rather than trying to hold the stem. The smaller petal should be uppermost.
Having said all that, if you have supported the appeal - it doesn't matter.
This information is only for those who have asked the question on "etiquette".
At the end of the day does it really matter? What is more important is that you have paid for one.
I use a safety pin. Push the stem through the loop at the end. It doesn't matter which side you wear it. you've supported ex-service personnel. That's the important thing. Well done everyone who has.
I honestly thought it depended it you were right or left handed
