Ive discovered my son has nits ... i think he has caught this from his cousins.

Anyway we have trawled his hair the night we discovered them (12.10am) and got 3 live louse out and loads of eggs. The following day I shot to the chemist to stock up on treatments and combs. Before starting anything I check and pulled out about another 16 eggs and went cold when I saw a live one again ... got the little bu*ger though.

So as of today, we have done the brushing through with conditioner, the Hedrin for 8 hrs followed by the re-combing and some "anti repellent" oil spray whilst he slept.

What I want to know if there any other methods to banish these eggs bar pulling them out or combing them .... I hate them and Im sooo paranoid and anxious!

Not really any other way, unfortunately. Once the eggs are dead, they still tick for ages if you don't slide them off each har, but they never hatch out so they won't cause more trouble. With the crawlers, once their legs are broken they can't breed (if only the same were true of the chavs round here). So unfortunatley it's case of persisting - hence we use the phrase 'nit-picking' for going over the same stuff in detail.
Then when the kids are clear, they come back home with nits again...
ps don't foget to give your own head the once-over as well.

Hi

Thanks very much for the advice ... sorry but when you said "when the eggs are dead" .... I didnt think the eggs could be killed by anything like the Hedrin, etc, I thought that was the live one. My understanding is that you comb the eggs out so they dont hatch within your hair. Am I wrong ... Im all confused now.

This is my first instance of NITS so excuse me if I come across all wrong!
Don't feel bad that the kids have got nits, tgm, nits love clean hair, all you can do is keep combing through and use suitable treatments. Have you asked if there is a breakout at the school. Bring back the Nit Nurse!

My son is about to turn 3 next week and goes to a childminder. She is always checking the kids. The only place I can think is that it was his cousins as they have both recently had an episode. If I knew the eggs couldnt hatch or were dead then I wouldnt be as hyped I suppose.

The smaller I find them the calmer I am cos the big fat ones, I feel I am about to hatch!
