It must be approaching 12 months ago when the news was full of a story of an elderly couple who had been cruising on their own private yacht when they were kidnapped by (I believe) Somali pirates. They were seen appealing on film with the kidnappers. I think the government was not prepared to pay and the pirates were adamant they would kill them. Does anyone know what happened? I'm sure I've seen or heard nothing at all!

The negotiator was killed. I see no reason why anyone else should risk their own lives to rescue this extremely foolish couple.

It was somalian pirates, I thought they were released, or was that the larger group of only males that were captured whilst sailing in the middle east?
this was asked on wednesday, they are still prisoners
I read in last weekend's paper (telegraph or Mail) that they were still alive and I think it was a negotiator sent on their behalf had also been kidnapped - don't hold me to the last bit but they were definitely still alive.
carmalee I think the negotiater was actually killed

I hesitate to thank you for that reply Alexandered as it's sad - but I now know the outcome and appreciate your input.. Think I've said it nicely!
hardly foolish - they were kidnapped near the maldives.

This is freaky though - we were only talking about them in work today. Hopefully they'll be ok
When they were shown on videos a few months ago, she looked to be on the verge of a breakdown.

Thanks all. Nothing really concrete then. Good to hear they're OK. They will have quite a story to sell if they make it. A bit like the miners.
