I was an innocent victim of crime were I made a verbal statement to the police whilst I was in hospital, however I later retracted the statement once I come round properly from my operation. I just felt I had been through way to much & could not take on any more stress I also was in fear of reprisals against me or my family. I filed a claim for compensation & to my surprise it was turned down by the CICA due to not co-operating with the police. Can anyone shed light on this matter or perhaps some advice on how I can get around this? Thank You.

If you won't admit to being a victim of crime and make a formal statement to the police, you can't claim compensation.
You've denied it happened
I think it's pretty obvious...

Thank you very much for your reply & the way you have explained it has helped me to understand my situation. What a damn shame i was very badly injured as a result of this & can no longer work for some time now. Thank you!
Is it too late to make a statement..?
Surely, if someone has injured you so badly Answerpls, don't you wish to proceed with a prosecution and compensation? I'm sure the police will continue the case if you tell them that's your wish. After all, why should you as a victim not be recompensed for your injury and why should you allow your assailant to walk away scot free? If you are frightened of any retribution, that is something you should also tell the police and they will (hopefully) act accordingly to protect you. Otherwise, your assailant has won and will be more confident in intimidating or assaulting you or someone else in the future. Don't you think you should pursue this, even if it's for someone else's sake?
