Hello everyone,
When I saw the grid and clue listing, and then read the rubric, (no clue numbers, grid numbers, superfluous words in clues deduction of an unclued entry and to cap it all squares to be highlighted), I was a little apprehensive. Thought I'd have a butchers at it anyway, pleasantly surprised at an early solution! Certainly more enjoyable than last week's offering, which really was just a bit pedestrian.
Time for a Tempranillo!

Hello everyone,
I'll add my tu'penn'th to the highlighting debate. First I have added an extra letter to an already populated grid square, so although the number of squares highlighted is 23 it involves 24 letters. This additonal letter is in the square immediately below the middle square of the final unclued, but deduced grid entry .It preceeds the legitimate letter entry of that word. Then, I highlighted, (is Highlit better, even though Americanicised?) all the squares surrounding the deduced entry, that were either vertically or horizontally contiguous to it. Reading those in row order indicates how the surrounded deduced entry qualifies as being responsible for the thematic entries. Then the surrounded deduced entry was highlighted! The squares that were highlighted then form a horizontally mirrored symmetry. QED, I hope! But as I don't submit, I'll wait till the solution arrives to either confirm or deny my convoluted explanation here!

I wish you well with the new saucepan Physicsgirl, and hope arrival does not prevent completion of this week's EV! I'd concur with AndrewG-S, frame it for the nursery, you never know it might inspire the new little person in due course!.

Jogler(s), not sure if you are aware, but this will be issue 2 for Physicsgirl, so should be known from now on as p-g/2.

Turnerjmw, oh, I wish my Stock Market punts yielded an 80% gain over such a short period!

Welcome to the madhouse Bellabee, nice to have new contributors.
DocHH, so, if they are twins will they be ((p-g)^2)/2?
Hi Physicsgirl!

Lovely to see you here again. Hope all has gone well.

AndrewG-S, it is necessary that each would have to have their own individual identity. so I'd suggest p-g/2/1 and p-g/2/2., a system that can be extended for triplets, quadruplets and even more! Your suggestion doesn't separate their unique personalities! Just imagine how confusing it would be in the household if Physicsgirl gave them all the same name! My suggestion results from too long working in a Manufacturing/Product Development Environment, where identifying drawings and issue numbers (no pun intended!) was de-rigueur!
Doc HH, I am with you if they are non-identical, but surely if they are identical products you would not apply unique product codes to each?
Doc, I think the correct term is "highlighterized", but I could be wrong about that. It sounds like we highlighterized the same cells. I was leery of splitting the second word, but there you are.

I always figured that by the time the third kid arrived, it would just be known as "hey you."
3rd???? I'm having enough trouble with 2! Or rather, almost 2 since bump has not yet transformed into baby. Thanks for all your well-wishes!
Hello Everyone, welcome to the new faces and a very warm welcome return to Physicsgirl, My sojourns in DC (they are all such clever clogsis) have been very lonely without you and MiniPG over the summer! Fingers crossed for a very short labour (1/2 an hour be OK?) and despite all the scientific discussion, I think the new addition should just be MiniPG2, or I suppose if twins (is it?) MiniPG2:1 & miniPG2:2.
As to the EV, took one look and threw it over the shoulder, afraid the 'black dog' has been with me the past 10 days and just getting up and doing what is essential has taken all available resources. Hiding under the duvet would be wonderful, unfortunately not an option here!
Thaks DocHH, I was also trying to make the TV programme out of it and just didn't spot the words in the surrounding cells. I don't submit either, don't want inundated by adverts, offers etc. Glad not to have to wait 3 weeks to see the solution however.
I reckon if you made the TV prtogramme out of certain letters it would reflect the characters -- mixed up and not all there.
Hello all, not much to report here - still, boringly, inundated with apples, in fact more so than usual as was away in the Algarve for a few days. And am off to Cornwall on the 6th October for a week, so busy, busy, busy. Only half way through this week's offering - lack of time rather than difficulty level, I think, but maybe just need a sojourn in DC. Once I'm back that should be it for travelling until after Christmas at least.
Lovely to hear from you PG - hope all is well on the pregnancy/motherhood front and that a SINGLE miniPG appears soon and without difficulty

Hello Christiana,
late on parade again, but for legitimate reasons. You seem to be far busier now you are back in the UK. I.m waiting for a crate of cider to be delivered chez moi!
Hi Doc H H I'm hoping things will settle down once the novelty of being back has worn off. I was busy before, and was hoping to have more time, not less! As for the crate of cider - my youngest is the one responsible for cider production. I have underlined the fact that the supplier of apples expects several crates of cider in return. Unfortunately he has now found another apple source, much nearer his home (It takes him about two and a half hours to drive to Spilsby from Toddington) so he is not feeling quite so grateful as he did. Actually I'm rather more interested in the blackcurrant liqueur he is also trying to produce, partly from his own stocks, but largely from mine.
