Cooker in rented property

We live in a rented bungalow and on the inventory, I notice that it states that the landlord will not replace the cooker if it stops working.

We've lived here for a couple of years and so far, touch wood, the cooker is fine. Just seems odd to me that we would be expected to pay out for what is a built in high-level oven and separate built-in hob, which we couldn't remove and take with us if we left as it fits in to the surrounding units. We would in effect, be buying the landlord a cooker. Seem odd to anyone else?

If a landlord of a rental property provides any kind of equipment like this they are legally obliged to keep it in working order, irrespective of what the tenancy agreement might say.

It's a bit late if you've signed the agreement and therefore somewhat irrelevant.
Removing a hob or built-in oven and carting it off with you is no more of a pain than a free-standing.
You're right BM, thats exactly what happened in a friends house, she'd had a new cooker/hob fitted and the tennants took it with them when they moved out.
Couldn't do a thing because no-one knew where they were moving to.
