I have been told that when I answer the phone to someone trying to sell me something that I am actually paying for the call. Does anyone know if this is correct? I am already registered with the telephome preference service.

no, youre answering a call, not making it. It does not cost you.
unless they use 0800 reverse, or something similar you aren't charged, but then you are told before you are put through to them, and have the option to reject the call.

We had a lot of trouble with them, and i think we are now ex-directory.
