Hmmm tough one, fit only? Could be about 20/m but don't know for sure.

How much have they quoted? We got a guy my husband knows from the pub to do it for us. I think he gave him about 30/40 for two bedrooms to be done but it was a few months back now, so cannot remember to be exact. A stair carpet is not that much of a job I would say, prob. an hours work. 30 sounds right to me.

It could depend on whether it's a wooden floor, concrete, how many turns or if it is just straight up and down, my brother charges 1 sq yard. (Glasgow)
I had a carpet fitted yesterday from a large carpet retailer. The fitter was paid separately by me after he fitted the carpet.

I have a loft conversion and had two stair carpets, two landings and hall carpet filled. The fitter arrived at about 10am and finished at about 4pm.

Total cost for fitting was 70.00
Staircase/landing,/hall carpet fitted in Kent cost 85 if we take up and dispose of old carpet and use existing fittings all round.

thanks everyone, gave me a better idea what to expect, my guy quoted 50 for the stairs/landing so sounds about right i think.

thanks again!

Does your quote only cover the fitting? Check if you'll be extra for underlay and grippers.

I got my hall/staircase/landing done for 90, including the underlay and gripper strips. That was 2 guys and took about 2 hours. Oh, and cups of tea!

Had my H/S/L all dobe and fitted for 65, two guys, a couple of hours and a few brews. Bought the carpet from carpet right.

This is a real trade in similar vein to a sparky, plumber and carpenter not as the larger stores have you believe also the product quality from these companies is questionable at times and will never be up to the standard of a fully vat registered independant store of over 10 years trading. we don't like to fit rubbish and we also must guarantee our work for 1 year so buy quality it will last longer work off costing under £9.99 sqyd max 5 years £9.99 sqyd-£15.99 sqyd 10 years £20 sqyd+ 15 years+ no carpet or fitting is legally guaranteed without new underlay which meets or exceeds specifications for the job and doesn't without being fitted by a vat registered fully trained professional. Don't be sucked in by salesmen, they lie to make commission.
