Mundesley, Norfolk

I am looking around for our family holiday for next June 2011. I know it's early but we have a large family (6 adults, 4 children aged 18months to 7 years) and we need a large house to accommodate us. This year we sent to Strete in Devon which was absolutely lovely but the local beaches were shingle - no sandcastle building there. So I found a place in Mundesley In Norfolk but wondered is any ABers had been or even live there. Can anyone tell me about the beaches etc. We are quite happy to be in a quiet place but need nice sand. Any info very gratefully received.

It certainly looks sandy if you go on google streetmap - although the photos don't go right onto the beach.
There's sand and sand though - gritty sand vs soft sand. we need Lottie!

Went to Mundesley about 3 years ago and found the town itself to be grotty. If the beach isn't to your liking don't bother because there isn't much else there.

Try a little bit further up the coast at West Runton.
Lovely sandy beach,but not much else.
However it,s 2 miles either way to Cromer or Sheringham,where there,s a bit more going on.

If you go to the south, definitely sandy beach at Lowestoft and southwards towards Southwold.

As others have suggested, there's not much at Mundesley except the beach.

Sandy beaches over at Heacham and Hunstanton. Amazing sandy beach at Holme. Google images will give you some ideas.

All of that coast (across to Cromer) is very good for touring although not all places have vast beaches or sandy beaches. East and West Runton are good with rock pools and the like.

The villages along the coast from Sidestrand down to say Happisburgh are not so good (and that includes Mundesley), but once you get to Sea Palling, Horsey, area it gets better and some beaches are superb.

A particular favourite is Winterton-on-Sea. Google images to get an idea and the village has a website too. Lovely village, lots of dunes, amazing beach that goes for miles each way. Just up the road from Hemsby, Scratby, Caister, Great Yarmouth but nothing like those places at all.

Selection of cottages on here, but many more if you have a search around. It's a smallish place with lots of holiday lets, many alongside each other so with such a large party you may need to consider having 2 houses.

Old hunstanton is the better one, holkham beach is beautiful used in pop videos and in Kingdom

Definitely would go for Wells. Lovely beaches and pine woods. Holkham, just 1 mile away is renowned for its beauty and wonderful beach. West Runton is nice, so is Sheringham.

Mudesley is good for cockles and samphire and marshes. Not a beach for sandcastles or picnics. Nice though and great trips to sea the seals.

Hi we live nearby, and the beaches in Cromer are really lovely, especially the Overstrand side. Dont know much about Mundesley-seems quite quiet but possibly busier in the holiday season.

Forget what I said about Mundesley. I was having a senior moment and thinking of Moreston!! Goodness knows why!!
