Not sure about raspberries but there's an old country saying "Never pick blackberries after the end of September because the Devil has ****** on them.".

I suspect this is because the lower sunshine levels, cooler nights and heavy dew cause the fruit to rot and taste foul. It's probably the same with raspberries.
