Why always such hysteria? Is there no-one to teach balance, measure, reason, perspective? Let's not forget this is the decision of one eccentric pastor with a congregation of only 50 people. He is not the spokesperson for Christianity, America, the Western World, or any such thing. Yet whole nations are up in arms, burning flags, screaming blue murder, threatening to kill on a mass scale, etc, etc. So would it be like this the other way round? I don't think so - not in the slightest. Do you?

jake.....what it is made of is not the point.............it is what it stands for.
That is exactly what I was trying to highlight

Too subtle perhaps?
jake...;-)
//And a war memorial is only a bit of old stone with words on that - why then the fuss about that woman urinating on it? //

I get the point, but there wasn't really that much fuss about it was there? everyone just said, god what a digusting idiot and then got on with their lives, which is also the appropriate reaction to the threatened Koran burning.
No-one was in the street waving placards and demanding death to all those who urinate on war memorials. The Prime Minister wasn't on the phone to the culprit demanding an apology for the sake of world peace.
Because jake-the-peg that bit of old stone (as you so rudely called it) carries the names of those brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice, so such as you could be born into a free land.

These names are not just names of unknown people written thousands of years ago in a book by other unknown people. They are real people who for reasons already said are no longer with us, but with the help on these 'bits of old stone' at least they will still be remembered and cherished for all time...
AOG - A bit too subtle for you as well , I see
Frankly, this guy sums up the whole situation better than I could ever hope to do:

//It is a jaw-droppingly absurd and cowardly argument: we must not offend these people -- not out of basic decency and human courtesy, but because we realise that they are homicidal savages who murder when annoyed.//

My thoughts precisely.
I think war memorials are for those that have died in conflict. Bible tales could be put on a par with fairy stories.
Anybody got a link to any of these stories?
"how would Christians react if an unimportant Muslim preacher threatened to burn The Bible?"

I'd think perhaps he ran out of firewood?

He's not burning my bible, I'd ignore him.

It's only so many Bibles he can burn... While he's burning Bibles, Bibles are also being printed.

I find it's best to sometimes ignore people, especially when they are irrational.
That man pastor or what ever was just try to make himself famous important or something. Like a child. any type of attention is better than no attention.
