Transfer files from HDD to PS3

Hi, ive got quite a few films in the form of .avi sitting on an external HDD. I usually put them on a memory stick via my laptop and view them on my PS3. Is there a way to transfer them from my external HDD direct to the PS3 HDD?

have you tried plugging the external hard drive straight into the PS3?

Hi CF, yeah that's what i've done but external drive doesn't show up on the PS3 at all.

It's not formatted in the correct way....

The drive needs to be formatted as FAT32, then the PS3 will recognise it

plug the drive into your computer and If you right click on the drive and select properties it will say what the file system is.

It's easy enough to change it, you need to copy everything off the drive onto your computer, format the drive, selecting FAT32, then copy everything back.
