I have an -up till recently- perfectly functioning TomTom One (30 series) and I've totally mucked it up (don't ask).
Basically - it's corrupted and won't acknowledge the map stating: "problem with map -you cannot use this map on this device" the map is a genuine Western Europe one that was working perfectly up till recently. I've searched the TomTom website's support section to no avail.
One solution involved entering the product code on the CD/box which I don't have as the unit was given to me.
Daah!

What did you do to yr unit? The first time mine corrupted I just linked it up to TomTom Home on the PC and reinstalled from the back up. The second and most recent time I just bought an up to date map which also gave me a years worth of updates. Good luck

Oh dear I knew someone would ask. I downloaded and tried to install a hooky Homer Simpson voice. In order to make it work I had to generate a digital signature to make it work using some separate device. Somewhere along the line it messed up the meta txts.
Have you tried pressing the small recessed reset button next to the SD card slot? You will need a staightened paperclip or similar. Otherwise your cheapest solution is possibly to buy a new card (£40). I've had a similar message when trying to update a Western Europe map.

It doesn't have one Dave (a reset button or an SD card slot) I've tried holding the on/off button for 15 sec - as instructed but it doesn't seem to re-set anything, all the files that were there, including all my new voices remain.
I wish there was some simple "nuke and pave" set up for TomToms.
Sorry, mine is a One XL which has an SD card. Try the TomTom online Help - I've found them very helpful and quick to respond. You may still have to download a new Western Europe map from their site ~ £40. Good luck!
