Had sinus surgery6 months ago. My surgeon says my sinus are clear (went back to see him last week). However i still get no taste or smell most mornings when i wake up. This lasts until about noon then its back to normal. Also after drinking about 3 or 4 pints at weekends i lose my sense of taste and smell. Have cut drinking down a lot because i love food more! Looks like alchol is causing nasel congestion, but why? Is it to soon yet after the op? Very frustrating

For what reason was the sinus operation performed? Polyps, chronic sinusitis?

Anosmia ( lack of smell) is a most difficult symptom to treat and if it has been caused by a viral infection then it my never return.

More details of you pre-operative symptoms before I can comment further.

Thanks Squad,
My pre op symptoms where; Constant blocked nose, pain and pressure around top of nose, no taste or smell for 3 weeks untill had some steriod nose drops and spray. Had FESS to remove nasel polyps in the left nostril. Have heard zinc is good for this condition. Thinking back this all started after breathing in a large dust cloud in the factory where i work last Sep.
Jessy....right, I am in the picture now.

Zinc?....forget it.

Now. your consultant or GP will give you steroid nasal spray for perhaps four or five months, but I must be honest and say that the recovery of your taste and smell is in the "lap of the Gods" and I don´t hold much hope.

Sorry.....I hope that I am wrong.

P.S How about trying to claim Industrial compensation for you loss of taste and smell ?
jessy, very annoying condition. next time you see your gp or consultans tell them "its in the lap of the gods " and sqad "doesnt hold much hope ? " lol
