Buying Music From I-Tunes

I suddenly find that I can no longer buy music from I-Tunes as they are saying I have to upgrade to the latest version first (I am using Version 7) I tried the latest version but did not get on with it as it was causing a lot of problems when I came to import music via a tape converter which I use. I changed back to the older version as it works better with my converter but it is a big problem not being able to purchase music as what I usually want is not readily available elsewhere. Any suggestions please ?

I know it sounds pretty basic but you have logged into iTunes have you? I downloaded the newer version yesterday after iTunes crashed a couple of times. It ran perfectly and all my old music was back onto the new version. I sincerely hope this is of some use to you but probably not. Good luck anyway.
I'm on iTunes 10, it's great!!
Just out of interest, do itunes still only let you have your purchased song in m4a format ? Or do you have the option of mp3, ogg, or wav (etc) ?
