I am a self confessed GK Crossworder and for the life of me cannot fathom cryptic clues.
Can anyone explain this one? The clue is Explosive Devices and the correct answer is "Bombs". (Crusader & Squire XWord, today's Sunday Express.

The cryptic clue is "Shells; second reversed, second, second, second".

How the devil are you meant to get the word "Bombs" from that???? Please enlighten me.

second = letter B second reversed = mo<
second = letter B then second = S
All I can see is mo (second) backwards in b s s all seconds.
A standard answer to second is S (as in Time)

The second letter of the alphabet is B

Another name for a second is MO

Then we're back to B

This gives SBMOB which, reversed, is BOMBS
