23 across "cats have two though sounding if they have more" 8 letters ??R?p???
(I am not sure about the fifth letter, therefore it's in lower case)

MINUETS - without means 'minus'; being without (meaning outside) space visitor (who is ET!), and dances are minuets. In other words, MINU S is outside the letters ET.

And an OPENER takes off a bottle top or cap; and an OPENER starts a game, maybe in cricket.
