I have recently bought a new laptop with windows 7 64 bit installed, the problem I have is it will not recognise my Cameras drivers, I have installed the disc Ok and also the updates from the Canon website but still it will not work. Has anyone else this model of Canon camera and if so did you have similar problems. My wife has a 450d and the laptop recognises the drivers on that model. Failing that is there a reliable card reader that works with Windows 7 & that reads Compact Flash cards?

Many thanks for any suggestions

I don't know about the drivers but any USB Card reader that will take CF cards will work fine with Windows 7. Card readers are also a huge amount faster than plugging the camera in and don't require the camera battery to be charged. The cheaper multi readers tend to have less 'guide' depth to the slots so there is always the risk of mis-insertion but anything from Sandisk or Kingston or whoever should be good. I have also tried a card reader that we have at work and that wasn't recognised either, maybe I need to change some settings on the computer
I have Windows 7 64-bit and a Canon 400D (the one in the middle of your two), and all I do is plug it in and it is detected. I haven't installed any drivers to be able to copy photos from the camera onto the PC, but it works fine without them.

It might be worth checking your USB ports to see if they work correctly. Have you plugged other devices, such as a printer or scanner, into the port you use for the camera?

Alternatively, try to uninstall all of the Canon software from the control panel and try again from scratch.
