Whats wrong with my router Connection

My router (Netgear) has worked fine for months, but for the last three weeks most of the time I cant get connected except (and this is the strange bit) if i use the phone. even more strange for the last 36 hours it been fine but we had a heavy shower and it went off, it's now back on again but for how long??? We don't have any visable phone line coming to the property so I guess its all underground. Have spent hours talking to sky (My ISP) and got nowhere, they have told me to replace the main BT socket, i have got a new one but as it is an intermittent fault I don't want to risk messing up my phone as well. Over to you> (Please)
