blackberry curve message icon appeared on messages

ive got a black berry curve phone and ive had a symbol appear on my email messages it a orange envelope with something at the bottom of it? i have checked n i dont have any new messages what it is and how do i get rid of it

I get a wee message symbol on my Nokia - I think it's just telling me my email account is connected, cos when it disconnects the symbol goes and if I've actually got messages there is a number on the screen too to tell me how many messages there are.

I've suddenly got one too, I don't think you can get rid of it.
