So Tony Blair is donating all the profits from his memoirs to a new Royal British Legion sports centre for injured troops.
Conscience money ........... or blood money? Or, is he just a good guy?

By the way, anyone going to Waterstones, Piccadilly, 1.00 pm Sept 8th, for his book signing? Incidentally, he will do no personal names or messages and please note he will sign no more that 2 copies per person at 25 pound per copy - so don't be greedy!
I think there will be a few unwelcomed hostile groups there so it's a good job we are all paying for personal protection!

"If you are a real die-hard Blair fan, you may be interested .........."
Mike, these are not my words, this is actually a quote from the Telegraph so I should have put it in quotes. No, I don't think there can be any die-hard fans in this country, maybe the USA.
Now Bernie, I can almost see the frown on your face. Beware of frown lines, they are really ageing and the opposite sex just don't like them!

I agree with an earlier poster (which may have been in the other thread) who said that Blair was more interested in his legacy.
I think the donation is nothing more than an advertising campaign for him personally and a way of attempting to persuade the public that he isn't one the most monstrous, self-serving politicians ever to have been inflicted upon the world. After the publication of his book, he can get back on the lecture circuit (very lucrative in the USA) and add even more millions to his already bulging bank accounts. And continue working for massive oil companies and banking institutions.
Let us not forget that he personally made a unilateral decision to go along with the USA's ill-though out invasion of Iraq. He then bullied his cabinet into accepting his decision. Then he successfully attempted to persuade both parliament and the public that there was a real and tangible threat posed by Saddam Hussain. He and other like minded war-mongers did this by falsifying evidence and deliberately misleading parliament and by manipulating certain newspaper editors to publish stories that supported the Government's claim that Hussain had and was prepared to use WMD upon the citizens of the UK.

Everything Blair stated was fact has subsequently been proved false. This is a man who has forgotten how to tell the truth. Does anyone else find it strange that all the time he was in office, he never really mentioned God at all? The second he leaves Number 10, he apparently acquires religion in great spades and starts to talk openly about his fervent belief in God. That was lucky, seeing as he then embarked on a lecture tour of the USA where publicly stating the you believe in God means the difference between speaking to an empty auditorium and speaking to a packed house.
I'm glad that he is donating the money from his (entirely factual and accurate...) memoirs to charity. But I don't believe for one minute that he is doing so out of he goodness of his heart.
