Apart from fleet managers and hire firms and other commercial reasons, why would a private indvidual buy a new car? Ok lottery winners and rich people accepted. I'm talking about your average joe. I mean look around the car park aywhere and 90% of them will be newish probably on tick, people effectively paying a second mortgage on something that will depreciate to zero. Madness absolute madness, can you imagine buying some shares that you know will fall to 0?

Sometimes life isn't just about saving money, some people just like the luxury of a new car and nice things, you cant take it with you!!
langara...I agree. One get´s a better trade in price against a new car than against another second hand car. A good deal, by my definition ,is when both parties are happy.

I couldn´t care less what happens to my trade in car after the deal is done and if the garage makes a profit, then good luck to them.

I guess an incentive for a new car - apart from the 'newness' of it - is the warrenty that ensures you can get its glitches in the first six - twelve months ironed out easily and at no cost.

I balance that against the fact that if I buy a car one - two years old, the major depreciation has occured, and someone else has endured the hassle of fixing its glitches for me.

Personally, I don't harbour a desire for a brand new car - I am content with one that goes.

For my next car, i want a yellow Fiat Sport, and a 'used' one will be fine.
