IN light of tonights appalling thread aimed at another aber

can I pass on the following suggestions for the benefit of the future of Chatterbank? (copywrite pending of course : ) )
1 stop all new registrations for 3 top 4 weeks
2 delete all duplicate usernames and ask users to voluntarily admit to any duplicates by email and remove them from the database.
3 check all Ip addys of the users that are left , and in the case of any duplications then contact the users by email and if its simply a case of siblings etc in teh same household then fair enough take note , if its not then delete all bar one from that Ip addy.
4 reopen registration , with the stipulation new users in their first week /2 weeks can only post 2 questions per day and a maximum of 10 answers per day.
5 log all ip addys and stop registered ones from adding any other usernames.

I think it's a good idea to deactivate all accounts that haven't been used for say 6 months since we know some of the banned users have some old IDs they can reactivate. In fact I see from a quick google search that it was someone called Legend-Lives who suggested this idea ealier today on another forum! But I doubt it will make a huge difference.
Restricting new users to say 5 postings in the first day may frustrate those who want to dominate the scene for a day if they are impatient and want to act immediately.
But of course if they are patient they could easily get round it. They just start up an inoccuous thread such as "who has tried those new biscuits " or "what is the name of that cheese..". and then wait to punce a day or two later.

I'm guilty of responding too often to these posters and I'll try to resist the temptation from now on, and perhaps others will too, because if no-one responds they will probably get bored and leave.

I'm curious as to why you are curious!
I thought it would be interesting to find the original article to see which expert had come up with these ideas and see if there was any discussion of how effective they are.
