Coverting tapes to MP4

My mother has hloads and loads of audio tapes (mainly Agatha Christie - that kind of stuff) How do I copy them to my computer please?

BUT....Please tell me in very basic term as I am a complete novice at this sort of thing.

OR....

What I'd like to do is put 4 tapes onto one CD disc if that is possible? Again please be as specific as possible.
