I have been advised that you cannot smoke in the bars and restaurants in Turkey. One of our party smokes and he will be like a bear with a sore head if he can't get his fix. Can any one advise please

where in turkey are you going? was in Belek a few weeks ago and the Turks, Russians etc are all prolific smokers, so dont think you'll have a problem.

Hi Annie going to Olu Deniz week on Friday really looking forward to it as never been to Turkey before. Missed out on hol last year as husband had to have op 2 weeks before we were due to go yo Ibiza!!!!. Did you like it?
Love Turkey. Went a long time ago to Marmaris and had a great holiday, and for some reason it took us a while to get back there again. If you can keep away from the usual English/German type restaurants, you will find Turkish food brilliant - lots of lovely baked stews and breads and veggie stuff with rice. Turks are pretty friendly people, you will always get the "sales pitch", but in my experience, they always take a polite no for an answer. I am sure you will have a great holiday - I don't think you get as many Russians in Olu Deniz, but the turks do smoke so I am sure that your friend wont find a problem. We were in a large All Inclusive hotel, and there were plenty of ashtrays about in the bars and a non smoking area in the restaurant.
also, would be usful for you to go on the trip advisor forums for that area and get plenty of local hints and tips before you go.

everyone in turkey seems to smoke. You can even avoid the pushy salesmen in shops by saying you'll come back when youve smoke your cig, cos they dont mind if you smoke in their stores!
I think only the British take notice of the smoking ban anyway, but in any event in Turkey, Greece, France, etc. most of the restaurants are outdoors anyway. The Greeks we spoke to on holiday this year just laughed when we told them about peopl huddling outside bars in the winter.
Went to a restaurant in Rhodes last year, before I sat down put my fags and lighter on the table so I did'nt squash them in my pocket. Waiter walked up and deposited an ashtray on the table.
Bemused, I pointed to a rather prominent 'NO SMOKING' sign hanging up.
Roared with laughter when he just turned the sign round to face the wall and said 'All ok now?'
We went to Turkey a few years ago and I've never seen so many smokers (I do too) The best thing I ever saw was a breakfast menu in a bar...
Turkish Breakfast : 2 Marlboro and strong Turkish Coffee!!
its so hot now.....smoke outdoors !
NOW for the real answer.
We have an apartment in OluDeniz area and can tell you that bar or restaraunts can be fined 1000tl for allowing smoking inside.
Outside is no problem and most restaraunts are open air and unfortunately inconsiderate smelly smokers insist on lighting up on the next table to you anyway.
