Am about to complete this crossword but have 2 clues where I think I know what the answer should be, but can't quite see why! Can anyone shed any light please?
23a: Academy Award presented to short US film director and dramatist (5,5) I have Oscar Wilde but where does the Wilde come from? I have Oscar ?i?d?
25a: Architect's right to divide large overcrowded city (4) I have Wren, but why? I get the r in the middle but what does wen have to do with anything? My letters are ?r?n
Thank you for any enlightenment! barrym

Both your guesses are right.
Short for Billy Wilder.
Wen used for a large city esp. London, as in the phrase 'the great wen'.
